When I first got into watching horror movies it was hard to know where to start. I wasn't sure what would scare me off horror entirely or make me fall in love with it.
This page's goal is to help newcomers find what horror movie is best for them.

Scream / Tier 2 - 🧟squeamish🧟

Scream (1996) is a well loved classic for a reason. For viewers in the squeamish tier, this is a must watch. Scream blends suspense, comedy and horror very well making it an all around fun watch for newcomers and long time fans of the genre.

ParaNorman (2012) is a stop-motion animated movie featuring zombies and the paranormal. It is a great Halloween movie that subverts zombie movie tropes in a comedic way.

Sinners / Tier 1 - 👻shivers👻

Sinners (2025) is arguably one of the best horror movies of the year. I would highly recommend for all types of horror movie fans, especially those who love vampire mythology and accurate historical dramas.

The Thing (1982) / Tier 3 - 🎃screaming🎃

The Thing (1982) is placed in tier 3 due to its incredible practical gore effects and use of puppetry. This movie is an intense watch. Great for viewers that can stomach extreme body horror.

Alien (1979) / Tier 2 - 🧟squeamish🧟

Suspenseful and creepy, Alien (1979) is great Sci-Fi monster movie. Body horror scenes are limited but gory. Alien is a recommended viewing before watching The Thing. The movies share alien body horror aspects with Alien (1979) being less intense in comparison.

Godzilla Minus One (2023) is a highly praised Godzilla movie that also is a great introduction to monster movies as a whole. Godzilla Minus One has the perfect balance of large scale action and quiet heartfelt moments.
